CLAYTON – Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library has announced the grand opening of the StoryWalk at East Clayton Community Park. This unique literary experience is a testament to the magic that happens when the worlds of literature and nature come together, providing families and community members with an innovative way to enjoy both.
The StoryWalk at East Clayton Community Park is a part of the Year of the Trail celebration, which celebrates North Carolina’s vast and diverse collection of trails. This exciting project was made possible through a collaborative effort between Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library, Clayton Parks and Recreation, and The Friends of the Library.
The Friends of the Library generously donated the funds necessary to purchase 24 permanent StoryWalk frames for East Clayton Community Park.
The grand opening event, which took place on Friday, Oct. 6 at 11 am, was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by North Carolina State Senator Benton Sawrey, State House Representative Donna White, and Town Councilman (and Library Board Ex Oficio) Michael Sims.
The StoryWalk concept transforms a traditional children’s story into a series of display boards placed along a walking trail. As visitors stroll along the path, they can enjoy the story one page at a time, immersing themselves in the narrative while surrounded by the serene beauty of nature. This interactive experience not only fosters a love for reading among children but also encourages families to spend quality time enjoying Clayton’s recreational facilities.
“The StoryWalk isn’t just a trail—it’s a unique reading experience designed for families to connect and explore the world of literature together. We take great pride in this project as it aligns seamlessly with our library’s goal to make reading accessible, engaging, and meaningful for our community,” said Joy Garretson Library Director.
Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library invites families, book lovers, and nature enthusiasts of all ages to explore the StoryWalk® at East Clayton Community Park and experience the joy of reading amidst the natural beauty of East Clayton Community Park.
