Clayton Man Arrested After High-Speed Chase

CLAYTON – A 50-year-old Clayton man, Michael Antonio Boylan, was arrested early Thursday morning following a high-speed chase with Johnston County deputies. The pursuit began around 12:14 a.m. when a deputy attempted to stop Boylan’s silver Nissan SUV on Steeler Lane at Castleberry Road. The vehicle was linked to an active felony warrant for breaking and entering to terrorize or injure, issued by Smithfield Police.

Boylan fled, reaching speeds over 100 mph along NC 42 and US 70 before stopping on Brandywood Drive off Gordon Road and trying to escape on foot. He was quickly captured. Deputies allegedly found a small amount of suspected cocaine in his possession.

Boylan faces multiple charges, including felony fleeing to elude arrest, felony drug possession, reckless driving offenses, and was served the outstanding Smithfield warrant. He is being held at the Johnston County Detention Center under a $90,000 secured bond.

His vehicle was seized under North Carolina’s Run and Done law.

No injuries were reported.
