Clayton Man Charged After 100 MPH Motorcycle Chase

CLAYTON, N.C. – A 19-year-old Johnston County man has been arrested after authorities said he led Wayne County deputies on a motorcycle chase at speeds exceeding 100 mph before fleeing into a cornfield in Sampson County.

Brayden Kenneth Daker, of Daffodil Lane in Clayton, was arrested following the Sept. 5 incident.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received multiple calls from concerned motorists about a motorcycle being driven erratically and at high speeds in the Grantham area.

Deputies located the motorcycle on N.C. 13 South traveling toward Newton Grove and attempted to make a traffic stop.

Authorities said the rider refused to stop and fled, reaching speeds of more than 100 mph.

The chase ended near Creel Road and N.C. 55 in Sampson County, where the rider allegedly abandoned the motorcycle and ran into a cornfield.

Deputies were unable to immediately locate him but said they were able to identify the driver and obtained warrants for his arrest.

With assistance from the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, Daker was later arrested in Clayton.

He was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, resisting a public officer, speeding, no motorcycle endorsement, improper turn, failure to stop for a stop sign, failure to maintain lane control, driving left of center and displaying no registration plate.

Daker was taken to the Johnston County Detention Center and held under a $40,000 secured bond.

The Sampson County Sheriff’s Office and Johnston County Sheriff’s Office assisted Wayne County deputies in the investigation.

The motorcycle was seized under the NC Run and Done law.
