Clayton Man Charged In Fatal Shooting Of Girlfriend On Highway 70

GARNER –  The Wake County Sheriff’s Office has formally charged a man accused of an attempted murder-suicide, after being released from the hospital.

Investigators have charged 28 year-old Terrance Laquan Scott of Clayton with murder, after he allegedly shot 23 year-old Jasmine Nicole Upsher during a domestic incident earlier this year.

During the afternoon of May 2, 2020 deputies responded to the intersection of Highway 70 and Raynor Road near Garner after witnesses heard gunshots being fired inside a vehicle, before a woman was pushed from the vehicle. That victim was identified as Jasmine Upsher.

Scott then drove about 500 yards east and shot himself.  It was determined through interviews with family members that Upsher and Scott were in a previous relationship and have children in common.

After months of recovery at a local hospital, Scott was taken into the custody this week and served with a warrant for murder. He was denied bail.

Jasmine Upsher had started a new job on Feb. 1, 2020 at the Johnston County Department of Social Services in Smithfield.  She was hired as an Income Maintenance Caseworker.

Jasmine is survived by two children.
