Clayton Names New Public Works Director

Robbins

CLAYTON – The Town of Clayton has named Tim Robbins as its new Public Works Director.

With nearly 20 years of experience in local and state government, Robbins brings a wealth of knowledge to the position, particularly surrounding the management of public assets. His portfolio includes Director of Public Works and Utilities with the Town of Benson and numerous posts with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT).

“Tim has a considerable amount of experience, and I know he will do an excellent job leading our Public Works Department in this time of transition,” said Deputy Town Manager Lee Barbee. “He has a proven ability to work with other departments and the community to address concerns, evaluate options, and improve the effectiveness of our infrastructure. I know he is going to continue to be a valuable asset to Clayton.”

As public works director Robbins will oversee multiple divisions of the Town’s operations including streets, fleet services, and property maintenance.

Robbins, who was hired by the Town in June 2022 as a project manager in the Engineering Department, is also familiar with Clayton’s capital improvement projects. He said he looks forward to applying his skill set toward maintaining and improving municipal infrastructure.

“I have always enjoyed working in the field of construction,” said Robbins. “I like being able to work through, plan, and design while being hands-on in building the final product.”

As an alumnus of North Carolina State University, Robbins holds a bachelor’s degree in Fisheries and Wildlife Management as well as an associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology from Wake Technical College. He officially began his new leadership role on Nov. 20.

  1. So, he has a ton of degrees and no clue what Clayton actually needs. Got it. He’ll fit right in with the “New Clayton”.
