Clayton Police Hosting Annual Torch Run To Benefit Special Olympics

CLAYTON, N.C. — The Clayton Police Department will once again take to the streets of downtown Clayton as officers and community members participate in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run supporting Special Olympics North Carolina.
The event is scheduled for Thursday, May 28, beginning at the Clayton Police Department located at 315 E. Second St. Participant sign-in starts at 8:30 a.m., with the walk and run beginning at 9 a.m.
Participants will follow a designated route through downtown Clayton before returning to the police department.
Officials said participation in the Torch Run requires the purchase of an official event T-shirt for $25, with all proceeds benefiting Special Olympics North Carolina. Commemorative hats will also be available for purchase ranging from $25 to $30.

Community members are encouraged to attend the event, support participants along the route and help raise awareness for Special Olympics athletes across the state. Drivers in the downtown area should expect brief traffic disruptions and temporary road closures during the event.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run is part of an international campaign led by law enforcement agencies to support Special Olympics programs through fundraising and public awareness efforts. Officers participating in the event are often referred to as the “Guardians of the Flame,” carrying the Flame of Hope in support of inclusion and athletic opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Clayton police officers and community supporters have already raised more than $5,000 this year through local fundraisers benefiting Special Olympics North Carolina.
Funds raised through the Torch Run help provide year-round sports training, competitions and support programs for Special Olympics athletes and their families throughout North Carolina.
