Two Johnston Jail Inmates Charged After Alleged Cell Assault

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Two inmates at the Johnston County Detention Center are facing additional felony charges after authorities say they severely assaulted a fellow inmate inside a jail cell Sunday night.
The alleged assault occurred at approximately 9:55 p.m. June 28 at the county jail in Smithfield.
According to authorities, Lamell McDaniel, 35, of Smithfield, sustained serious injuries during the attack. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment following the incident.
Investigators charged Zayvion Christyle Boone, 18, of Smithfield, and Noelle Marral Manning, 18, of Smithfield, with felony assault inflicting serious injury.
Officials have not released what led to the alleged assault, and the motive remains under investigation.
Boone and Manning were already being held in the Johnston County Detention Center on charges stemming from a May 2025 shooting on Kay Drive in Smithfield.
At least one bullet struck an innocent woman who was driving through the area. Both Boone and Manning were arrested in connection with the shooting and have remained in custody since their arrests.
The investigation into Sunday’s jail assault remains ongoing.

Exactly… that is the problem with these young black men and not just black but all races. Having a strong father figure in the home… you would not see so many of society ills if their was a father in the home.
Ummm, do you know Mr McDaniel? My guess is, no.
