Clayton Police are investigating approximately 40 car break-ins and three vehicle thefts. Police Chief Greg Tart said all 40 vehicles were left unlocked and the three stolen vehicles had the keys left inside them. The thefts occurred this week in the Wynston, Garrison, Lionsgate and Ellington subdivisions, all in the Amelia Church Road area.
Chief Tart said detectives have one juvenile suspect identified and are actively working to locate the juvenile. Police believe at least five or more additional suspects are involved. Police are also trying to track down the three stolen cars.
Police remind the public to keep your cars locked at all times and valuables out of sight.

Biden’s America strikes at the heart Clayton, again.
I hope you folks who are Ridin with Biden are enjoying the ride so far. Only an ants shadow over 3 years Building Back Better left! LOL
Because car break-ins ONLY began after Biden took office…..
Sincerely, fellow Biden antagonist. However, a smart one 🙂
Because you’re no more intelligent than you are from Johnston County.
If you were either you’d know there has been a severe uptick in criminal activity in Johnston County since Joe Biden took his illegitimate presidency. Yes, his policies are having a negative impact decreasing criminal activity internationally, nationally and yup you guessed it, here locally.
I guess you’re neither as smart nor the antagonist you identify as. 😘
Don’t show up here.
How is it considered a “break in” when the car is unlocked?? And who leaves the keys in their car these days?? Seems to me these people were begging to be stolen from. Insurance fraud maybe????
§ 14-56. Breaking OR entering into or breaking out of railroad cars, motor vehicles,
trailers, aircraft, boats, or other watercraft.
(a) If any person, with intent to commit any felony or larceny therein, breaks or enters
any railroad car, motor vehicle, trailer, aircraft, boat, or other watercraft of any kind, containing
any goods, wares, freight, or other thing of value, or, after having committed any felony or
larceny therein, breaks out of any railroad car, motor vehicle, trailer, aircraft, boat, or other
watercraft of any kind containing any goods, wares, freight, or other thing of value, that person
is guilty of a Class I felony. It is prima facie evidence that a person entered in violation of this
section if he is found unlawfully in such a railroad car, motor vehicle, trailer, aircraft, boat, or
other watercraft.
It is break OR enters a vehicle. Helluva conspiracy for 40 people in an insurance fraud scheme. What is more likely is that they juveniles had plenty of time to check car doors without any law enforcement intervention. Seems like the vast resources of the Clayton Police Department could be put to better use.
Thank you John but I was being slightly facetious. But seriously…..who leaves their doors unlocked or, even worse, leaves the keys in their car?? Probably would have been okay 50 years ago but definitely not now!!!
