A Smithfield woman was arrested on felony drug charges at a Smithfield Police License Checkpoint. Around 1:00am Tuesday, officers were conducting the checkpoint on East Market Street (US 70) near Interstate 95.
A 2004 Nissan stopped at the checkpoint. The driver was not able to immediately produce a license and the officer detected an odor of marijuana, according to interim police chief Keith Powell.
During a search of the car, 13.8 grams of suspected crack cocaine and 0.7 grams of cocaine were located. The drugs had a potential street value of $1,450.
A Daisy pellet gun was also located on a passenger in the car and temporarily seized for safekeeping.
Foneshea Denise Joyner, 38, of Ray Drive, Smithfield was charged with felony possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine and felony maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance. Joyner was served with a January 2001 warrant for failing to appear in Wayne County Court on an unspecified charge.
Her bail was set at $20,000.
