Due to the cold weather, the Town of Smithfield has not been able to run its regular routes with its new street sweeper.
In a recent memo from Town Manager Michael Scott to the town council, Scott said the sweeper uses a water reservoir that is self-contained causing the sweeper to freeze up in extremely cold temperatures. Once the temperatures get warm enough the street sweeper will be back on a normal schedule.
