Johnston County Commissioners have approved a request to fund $185,228 towards a matching grant for the Johnston County Area Transit System (JCATS). Community and Senior Services (CSS) of Johnston County oversees JCATS.
CSS Executive Director Neal Davis said JCATS has applied for a $926,141 grant from the NC Department of Transportation to help cover administrative expenses and other improves in 2022. The county is required to match the grant with 20 percent funding equal to $185,228.
If approved by the NC DOT, the grant will cover $235,215 towards JCATS administrative staff expenses; $234,522 towards utilities, insurance, computer support; $402,500 to replace six vehicles; $14,904 for six two-way radios; and $39,000 for miscellaneous expenses including vehicle lettering, shop equipment and software.
Commissioners unanimously approved the request.
