Johnston County Commissioners approved a new fire services contract with the Johnston County Emergency Services effective July 1. The contract is revised and renewed every two years.
Two versions of the agreement, one for non-profit corporations and another for municipalities, were drafted and approved. Both clarified Johnston County Commissioners would determine fire tax rates, allowed them to inspect books and accounts, perform audits and complete asset tracking. Funds from the county’s fire tax will be used exclusively for fire department operations to provide fire protection and emergency services in Johnston County.
Paul Whitehurst, assistant director of the county’s Emergency Services, presented the finalized agreements to the board.
