CommWell Health Adds Mobile Medical, Dental Unit

FOUR OAKS, N.C. — CommWell Health has expanded its mobile healthcare services with the addition of a new medical and dental unit that will provide care to patients across Johnston County and five neighboring counties.

The nonprofit community health center announced that the 32-foot mobile clinic will deliver medical and dental services to communities in Johnston, Sampson, Harnett, Bladen, Brunswick and Pender counties.

The unit is equipped with two dental chairs, digital imaging equipment and wireless access to electronic health records, allowing providers to deliver care in rural communities while maintaining access to patient medical information. The vehicle can also be converted to provide medical services and assist CommWell’s permanent clinics when needed.

“The new mobile health unit brings us one step closer to our mission of delivering and improving the health and well-being of the communities we serve,” said Tamara Dunn, chief executive officer of CommWell Health. “It enhances our ability to meet patients exactly where they are.”

In addition to providing routine medical and dental care, the mobile unit is designed to respond during emergencies and natural disasters, allowing healthcare providers to deliver services in affected communities.

The mobile clinic was funded through a $589,000 Capital Assistance for Hurricane Response and Recovery Efforts (CARE) grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration. The grant also paid for emergency generators at CommWell Health’s Bolivia and Newton Grove/Spivey’s Corner locations to help keep those facilities operating during power outages and severe weather.

CommWell Health is a nonprofit, community-governed health center system that has provided medical, dental and behavioral health services in southeastern North Carolina for nearly 50 years. The organization operates locations in Johnston, Sampson, Bladen, Brunswick and Pender counties.
