PARKLAND, FL – Congressman Wiley Nickel (NC-13) joined Congressman Jared Moskowitz (FL-23) and a bipartisan group of Members of Congress for a visit on Monday to the site of the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, FL.
Congressman Nickel joined the Members of Congress and victims’ families for a tour of the 1200 Building at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, the site of the deadliest high school shooting in U.S. history.
Following the tour, Congressman Nickel participated in a roundtable discussion with the Members of Congress and victims’ families focused on school safety and security measures, commonsense solutions to reduce gun violence, mental health care funding and initiatives, and the need for bipartisan legislation to keep students and schools safe.
“Touring the site of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting and meeting victims’ families was an experience I’ll never forget,” said Congressman Wiley Nickel. “There’s no way to describe what it felt like to see the bullet-riddled, bloodstained classrooms and hallways that remain frozen in time. We owe it to each victim and family impacted by this tragedy to stop the epidemic of gun violence plaguing our nation. It’s important that we address this head-on and work together to keep our children, teachers, and fellow Americans safe.”
The Congressional delegation also included Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), Dan Goldman (NY-10), and Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-25).
During the visit, Congressman Nickel met family members of Alex Schachter, Jaime Guttenberg, Alyssa Alhadeff, Chris Hixon, Gina Montalto, Meadow Pollack, and Helena Ramsay.
