Smithfield Approves 16-Unit Townhome Development
SMITHFIELD – On Dec. 16, the Smithfield Town Council unanimously approved a preliminary plat for a 16-unit townhome development on Waddell Drive, just off North Brightleaf Boulevard.
The townhomes will be located on approximately 1.63 acres at 37 and 41 Waddell Drive. The project combines two existing parcels and a small portion of property at 903 N. Brightleaf Boulevard. The three parcels are owned by Sun Auto Wash and Spectrum Realty LLC of Four Oaks.
Plans call for the demolition of two existing single-family homes to make room for 16 two-story townhomes. Each unit will measure approximately 1,020 square feet and include two bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms.
The townhomes will front a common parking area featuring 35 parking spaces. Access to the development will be provided by a single driveway connecting to Waddell Drive, which will be upgraded with curb and gutter improvements on the development side of the street.
A six-foot-high screening fence will be installed along the buffer line separating the townhomes from an adjacent single-family neighborhood.
Town staff reported that the project complies with the town’s comprehensive land use plan and approved conditional zoning master plan.
