Smithfield Police are asking merchants to be on the lookout for counterfeit money. One person attempted to pass counterfeit $100 bills at 6 businesses in the Smithfield Crossings area off Industrial Park Drive on Wednesday.
The suspect, a young black male, was successful in passing the counterfeit $100 bill at three restaurants. Three retail businesses refused to accept the money.
Police said all the counterfeit $100 bills had the same serial number: K15342724A.
Any merchant who may have unknowingly accepted any counterfeit money is asked to contact the Smithfield Police Department at 919-934-2121.
