County Approves Fewer Subdivisions But More Building Lots

1,216 Building Lots Approved Jan – July, Up From 805 Lots At The Same Time Last Year

The rapid building boom in Johnston County isn’t showing any signs of slowing down anytime soon.

During the first 7 months of 2018,  115 major and minor subdivisions were approved by the Johnston County Planning Department, which is down from 137 subdivisions approved during the first seven months of 2017.  However, the overall number of lots approved is up.

Combined, the 115 subdivisions approved this year account for 1,216 building lots, compared to the 805 lots approved in the first seven months of 2017.

Of the 115 subdivisions, 25 are classified as major subdivisions. Those 25 major subdivisions total 1,143 acres.

According to the report,  the planning department is reviewing plans for four more proposed major subdivisions totaling 312 lots.

As of July 31st, Johnston County builders and property owners had 11,409 lots available for new single family construction.  430 of those lots were added in July alone.
