Over 25 surplus county vehicles will be sold to the highest bidder next month. County Commissioners have agreed to hold a surplus property sale on Saturday, August 10th at 10:00AM at the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office Fleet Services Building at 60 Shelter Way in Smithfield. Vehicles from several county departments will be sold.
On July 9th, commissioners agreed to surplus 18 vehicles no longer in use by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Steve Bizzell said many of the vehicles have engine and mechanical issues and are no longer reliable. 8 (2009-2011) Ford Crown Victoria’s, 7 (2014-2015) Dodge Chargers, a 2008 Chevy Tahoe and a 2013 Chevy Caprice will be sold. Bizzell said the Dodge Chargers were not as reliable as the Ford Crown Vic’s patrol cars. “I’ve only got seven Crown Vic’s left. I wish I had 70,” Sheriff Bizzell told Commissioners.
The Johnston County Tax Office was also given permission to surplus three 2006 Ford Taurus that have mechanical issues. Other county-owned vehicles previously surplused will also be included in the August 10th auction.
The auction will be conducted by Randy Wester Auction Company of Benson.
