Many South Smithfield residents are still literally picking up the pieces from Wednesday nights storm that caused damage.
Officials announced Friday that 15 homes were damaged by the fast moving thunderstorm that produced straight line winds that damaged the structures along British Court and Country Club Road, off S. Brightleaf Boulevard.
The Country Club also reported about 60 trees were knocked down by the high winds.
To assist the homeowners, County Manager Rick Hester told WTSB News the Johnston County Inspections Department will be waiving building permit fees for residents needing permits to rebuild and repair damaged roofs and homes. Also, Hester said the County would waive all tipping fees at the Landfill for homeowners needing to dispose of weather related debris from the storm.
