A Smithfield couple was robbed Friday morning after intruders forced their way into their home. The home invasion occurred around 1:00 AM in the 300 block of South Fourth Street.
A 22 year-old man, who was asleep when the suspects entered, was bound by the suspects. A 22 year-old woman was forced into a bathroom. The suspects, two black men wearing dark clothing and dark hoodies covering their faces, rummaged through the residence stealing cash, collectible coins, prescription medication, and even insulin from one of the victims. A handgun was displayed during the holdup.
Smithfield Police Captain R.K. Powell said the robbery remains under investigation. The man and woman were not harmed.
