Crews Contain Fire At Atkinson Milling Company

SELMA, N.C. — Multiple fire departments responded Thursday night to a fire at Atkinson Milling Company off NC 42 East.

Emergency crews were dispatched around 8:30 p.m. after a fire was reported inside the business.

Units from the Antioch, Northside, Corinth Holders, Selma, and Middlesex Fire Departments responded to the scene.

Firefighters arrived to find a working fire inside the building. Crews were able to quickly bring the fire under control.

Authorities said smoke filled the building, but firefighters prevented the flames from spreading beyond the area of origin.

The Johnston County Fire Marshal’s Office responded to investigate the cause of the fire.

Investigators determined the fire originated in a fryer inside the building and ruled the blaze accidental.

No injuries were reported.
