Cub Scouts Help Kick Off Benson’s New Youth Pledge Initiative

BENSON, N.C. — Members of BSA Pack 19 Cub Scouts helped launch the Town of Benson’s new Youth Pledge Program by leading the Pledge of Allegiance during the Benson Board of Commissioners meeting.
The new initiative is designed to encourage young people to become involved in local government while giving them an opportunity to participate in the town’s public meetings.
The June 23 meeting began with an invocation by the Rev. Donald Sadler of Elevation Methodist Church, who was serving as the first guest pastor through the Benson Area Ministerial Association’s new guest invocation program.
Following the prayer, members of Cub Scout Pack 19 led commissioners, town staff and attendees in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, becoming the first participants in the town’s Youth Pledge Program.

Town officials said the program will invite youth from across the Benson community to open future Board of Commissioners meetings by leading the Pledge. In addition to participating in the meeting, young people will have the opportunity to observe local government in action and learn more about the decision-making process.
Town leaders said the program is intended to promote civic engagement, leadership and community pride among Benson’s younger residents.
Benson commissioners thanked Cub Scout Pack 19 for helping launch the new initiative and said it looks forward to welcoming more local youth to participate in future Board of Commissioners meetings.
