Customer Accused Of Throwing Hand Sanitizer At Store Employee

SMITHFIELD, N.C. –– Police are investigating an alleged assault on an employee at a Smithfield business after a customer reportedly threw a bottle of hand sanitizer at the worker.

The incident was reported Aug. 29 at Crocs on Outlet Center Drive.

Police said a female customer entered the store, made a purchase and left. She returned a short time later, reportedly upset over whether she had received an advertised discount.

As the customer began to leave the store, police said she picked up a bottle of hand sanitizer from the counter and threw it at an employee, striking the worker in the arm.

The employee was not injured and immediately contacted police.

The suspect left the business before officers arrived.

The incident remains under investigation.
