A man whose throat was slashed during an altercation at a Selma motel Tuesday night is lucky to be alive. Police said the knife wound missed the victim’s carotid artery by less than 2 millimeters.
Police have charged 20 year-old Xavier Terrrill Atkinson of Third Street, Princeton with the cutting of the 32 year-old Smithfield man.
Officers said both men were at a motel on Graham Street around 8:00 PM when they got into an argument. Witnesses allege Atkinson pulled a knife out of his pocket and slashed the victim in the throat. Police were able to recover the weapon.
The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of a serious but non-fatal injury. Atkinson was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with attempt to kill.
