Deadline to Apply for Hurricane Matthew Recovery Funding Is May 31

RALEIGH − The deadline to apply for Hurricane Matthew single-family housing recovery assistance through the ReBuild NC program is this Friday, May 31. This is the last opportunity for eligible North Carolinians to apply for aid through the state’s Hurricane Matthew Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funding. The program offers eligible homeowners funds for reimbursement of work completed and rehabilitation or reconstruction of substantially damaged homes.

Financial assistance through the ReBuild NC program is currently available for people whose homes were damaged by Hurricane Matthew, or Hurricanes Matthew and Florence. North Carolina is awaiting notification from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development on the availability of CDBG-DR funding for homes impacted only by Hurricane Florence. In addition, the application period for home buyouts and acquisitions will be announced soon.

All homeowners impacted by Hurricane Matthew, regardless of where they are in the recovery process, are strongly encouraged to apply for assistance by the May 31 deadline. Homeowners who wish to apply should call 2-1-1 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday to schedule an appointment at the Application Center nearest them. For information on locations and hours of operation, visit rebuild.nc.gov/application-centers. Homeowners who are unable travel to an Application Center should dial 2-1-1 to request assistance.

ReBuild NC is administered by the North Carolina Office of Recovery and Resiliency. The office provides disaster recovery coordination with services that include oversight of recovery funding, processing of program applications, construction and vendor management, and public outreach and education, among other responsibilities.
