Investigators have charged a Johnston County man with reporting his car stolen after he was involved in an automobile accident.
Jerry Wayne Hinton, 43, of the 10000 block of Old Beulah Road, Kenly was arrested Friday and charged with filing a false police report.
On March 16th, Hinton said he was doing mechanic work on his car outside his home. When he walked inside for a moment, someone allegedly stole his vehicle.
Sheriff’s deputies allege Hinton was involved in a car accident about a mile from his home 10 minute earlier and he was the at-fault driver. Hinton allegedly fled on foot from the scene of the crash and reported his car stolen afterwards.
He was released on a $2,000 bond pending an appearance in Johnston County district court.
