Deputies Seek Suspect In Speedway Armed Robbery

GARNER, N.C. – The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an armed robbery reported early Tuesday at a Speedway convenience store near the Interstate 40 interchange.

The robbery was reported around 2:58 a.m. at the Speedway at 5170 Veterans Parkway (N.C. 42 West).

According to the Sheriff’s Office, an employee told 911 an unknown man entered the store and approached the counter to purchase an energy drink and cigarettes.

The suspect then left the business, telling the clerk he did not have his wallet.

Authorities said the man returned a short time later and asked for a different brand of cigarettes.

As the clerk turned to retrieve the cigarettes, the suspect allegedly moved behind the counter.

Investigators said the man implied he had a weapon and took an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing on foot.

No injuries were reported.
