A Johnston County deputy sheriff was involved in an accident Friday afternoon during a two-county chase. Around 2:00pm, SAFE Team deputies attempted to stop a car on Interstate 95 in Johnston County. The vehicle failed to stop. The chase continued southbound into Harnett County.
The fleeing vehicle exited off I-95 onto Jonesboro Road near Dunn. The pursuing officer lost control of the marked patrol car on the southbound exit ramp. The Dodge Charger patrol car traveled down an embankment where it came to rest.
The uninjured officer jumped into the passenger seat of a second patrol car and continued the pursuit. The fleeing vehicle was stopped a short time later in Dunn and two people were arrested. Their names and charges have not been released.
The Highway Patrol in Harnett County is investigating the patrol car accident.
