CLAYTON — One person was taken into custody and authorities are searching for a second suspect after deputies discovered a burglary in progress near Clayton.

The incident occurred around 10:20 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17 at a residence on Trantham Trail, off Loop Road.

According to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was in the area on an unrelated call when he observed two men behaving suspiciously outside the home. When the men noticed the deputy, they ran into a wooded area.

After a brief foot pursuit, one suspect, identified as Jeramia Iasiha Dodson, 24, of Townview Drive in Selma, was detained. Deputies later determined the residence had been broken into and that the theft was stopped by the deputy’s actions.

Dodson was charged with breaking and entering, possession of burglary tools, possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting a public officer, misdemeanor larceny and probation violation. He was being held under a $105,000 secured bond.

The second suspect fled the scene and has not been apprehended. Deputies said the investigation is ongoing.
