Deputy Rescues Driver, Two Dogs From Fiery Wreck

HARNETT COUNTY – A Harnett County deputy rescued the driver of a pickup truck and their two dogs following a violent crash. The collision occurred just before 4:00pm Thursday on NC Highway 82 near Norris Road.

The deputy happened upon the crash, involving a pickup towing a trailer and garbage truck, seconds after it occurred and radioed for help.

While the officer was attempting to rescue the motorist, the pickup caught fire. The deputy was able to get the individual and the two pets out of the vehicle before the flames entered the cab.

The driver of the garbage truck was unharmed and was able to exit his vehicle and move to safety.

Erwin Fire Rescue arrived quickly and found both vehicles were on fire. They used water and firefighting foam to extinguish the blaze.

The State Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.

  1. This Deputy is a hero and should be recognized by his department as one although they will tell everyone they are just doing their job. Great job Deputy.
