The Highway Patrol continues to ask for assistance locating a vehicle involved in a fatal hit and run in Harnett County. On Saturday night, January 16th, the driver of a white mid-1990’s GMC or Chevrolet pickup truck with a loud exhaust system ran off Highway 421 near McNeill Mill Road, striking three teenagers. Two were killed.
The victims were 13 year-old Jennifer Schark and 16 year-old Kyle Straight both of Broadway. The third teen, Steven Daniels, 14, was critically injured.
Troopers said the teens had just left a local Kangaroo gas station around 11:15pm, where they bought drinks and snacks, and were walking on the shoulder of Highway 421 when they were struck. The driver did not stop at the scene.
The vehicle is believed to have front end damage.
