District Attorney Susan Doyle Receives Prestigious Peter S. Gilchrist III Award

CARY – The North Carolina Bar Association presented Johnston County District Attorney Susan Doyle with the Peter S. Gilchrist III Award at their annual banquet on January 30. The Bar Association presents the award to a prosecutor in North Carolina who exemplifies the highest ideals and professionalism through their career.

To be eligible, the attorney must be actively practicing as a prosecutor, have at least 15 years of continuous practice as a prosecutor, have an exemplary record and reputation within the legal community and who abides by the highest ethical standards, and have been an active, positive force inside and outside the courtroom in working to improve the criminal justice system.

The awards’ banquet was held at the Embassy Suites in Cary with many of Doyle’s family, friends, colleagues, and employees in attendance to see her receive the award. Senior Resident Superior Court for Johnston County Judge Thomas H. Lock made introductory remarks recollecting when Doyle first interned in the District Attorney’s Office during the summer of 1992.

Doyle stated, “I am so honored to be the recipient of the Peter S. Gilchrist III Award. So many of the past recipients are my mentors and heroes, and I am truly humbled to stand with them to honor the professionalism that Peter Gilchrist exemplified during his career. I owe this recognition to my staff who work tirelessly every single day to ensure justice is served for victims of crime in Johnston County.”
