SMITHFIELD – A 39 year-old man landed in the Johnston County Dentention Center after a brief chase with Johnston County deputies.
Dwight Turrentine of Roxboro Street, Durham faces multiple charges stemming from the pursuit.
Around 6:25pm Friday, Nov. 8, a patrol deputy stopped a Chevy Cruze on Venture Drive near the Outlet Center for a license plate violation. After approaching the vehicle, the motorist, identified as Turrentine, drove away.
The deputy pursued the vehicle to US 301, then northbound, at low speeds. Turrentine reportedly rear-ended a utility trailer being pulled by a pickup causing minor damage but failed to stop.
At the intersection of US 301 and US 70 in Selma, Turrentine reportedly jumped and ran but was quickly apprehended, with the assistance of Selma Police.
Turrentine was charged with fleeing to elude arrest, hit and run, expired registration, failure to heed to a light and siren, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting a public officer, failure to carry a valid drivers license, failure to carry a registration card, lane change violation, failure to stop for a red light, unsafe lane change, speeding, reckless driving, and unsafe movement.
No injuries were reported.
