A wanted person driving a Lexus was arrested Saturday morning following a high speed chase in Johnston County. It started around 2:00am when a SAFE Team deputy with the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a car for speeding on US 70 east of Smithfield.
The driver failed to pull over, instead accelerating to speeds that reached 130 mph. After pursuing the driver about eight miles, the operator slowed his car to 45 mph. Other officers were able to force the car to a stop.
Cedric Lamar Williams, 33, of S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh was wanted at the time of the pursuit for felony probation violation. Williams is facing numerous other charges including fleeing to elude arrest, driving on a revoked license, reckless driving, speeding in a highway work zone, having an open container of alcohol, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.
