Driver Charged In Crash Involving Activity Bus

JOHNSTON COUNTY – A Johnston County man has been cited for driving left of center after his car collided with an activity bus. The two vehicle accident was reported Saturday at 1:28pm on NC Highway 55 near NC 96 South in southern Johnston County, near the Sampson County line.

The State Highway Patrol said a Transylvania County Schools activity bus was traveling westbound on NC Highway 55 entering a curve. A 2014 Chevrolet passenger car was traveling eastbound entering the same curve. The driver of the Chevrolet, Quincy Rashah Williams, 28, of Benson told troopers an animal ran into the roadway causing him to swerve left of center and strike the front corner of the bus. After the impact both vehicles ran off the roadway.

There were 14 students on board the activity bus plus the driver, Anthony Owen of Brevard, NC, and two adult chaperons. Johnston and Sampson county EMS units responded and evaluated the students and adults for scrapes and bruises, however no one was transported to the hospital.

Williams was also evaluated by EMS but did not report any injuries. Williams was cited by Trooper D.P. Tucker for driving left of center.

Damage to the Chevrolet was estimated at $10,000. Damage to the 2021 Thomas school bus was placed at $8,000.

  1. That animal was called a no-see-em. Glad none of the kids were in real bad shap but the no-see-em we think is dead but cant tell because we cant see em.
