The Highway Patrol has identified a woman who died after her vehicle overturned and partially submerged in a creek. The crash happened early Saturday morning on Friendship Church Road near the Johnston-Nash County line.
Troopers said 38 year-old Melissa Dawn White of Middlesex was traveling northbound in a red 1995 Chevy pickup when she lost control of the vehicle in a curve. The truck traveled off the roadway, struck an embankment adjacent to a bridge the overturned down the embankment before partially submerging upside down in a creek. White died at the scene. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.
Investigators said speed and alcohol were suspected as being contributing factors.
