SELMA – The State Highway Patrol has identified a driver killed in a head on collision with a fuel truck. The accident happened around 5:00pm Tuesday on NC Highway 39 about six miles north of Selma.
Troopers said Quentin Peter Greear, age 42, of Louisburg, NC died in the crash. A witness said Greer was traveling southbound in a 2015 Nissan Sentra when he crossed the center line and collided with a northbound 2024 Freightliner tanker. The tanker was operated by Emmanuel Pickett, age 50, of Knightdale. The tanker burst into flames upon impact.
Greerar died at the scene. Authorities said Greerar was speeding at the time of the crash and suspect drug impairment may have been a contributing factor.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
