The NC Highway Patrol has filed charges against the driver of a pickup truck that ran off a rural roadway Monday afternoon, struck a tree, and burned.
The accident was reported at 12:37pm on King Mill Road about three miles northwest of the Four Oaks city limits.
Troopers said a 2002 GMC pickup driven by Kenneth Dale McGee, 18, of Benson, ran off the right side of King Mill Road in a curve, reentered the roadway, ran off the left side of the highway, overturned and struck a tree. After the impact the truck caught fire and burned.
McGee was transported by Four Oaks EMS to Johnston Medical Center in Smithfield for treatment of minor injuries.
According to an accident report, McGee told troopers another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction was in his travel lane forcing him off the roadway.
Trooper C.E. Summerlin cited McGee with failure to maintain lane control. Photos by John Payne
