Driver Involved In Crash Arrested For DWI, Child Abuse

SMITHFIELD – A Harnett County woman is facing charges following a traffic accident in the Smithfield city limits. The two vehicle collision was reported Friday, April 19 at 6:05am on W. Market Street at M. Durwood Stephenson Parkway.

According to Smithfield Police, Ashley Morgan Walker, 30, of Coats was operating a 2013 Chevy SUV in the eastbound lane of Market Street and attempting to make a left turn onto M. Durwood Stephenson Parkway. Walker failed to yield to a westbound 2015 Nissan car driven by Steven Josue Hernandez-Solis, 23, of Smithfield. The vehicles collided in the intersection.

Both drivers were injured along with a child, under age 6, in Walker’s vehicle. The relationship between the child and Ms. Walker was not disclosed.

Walker and the child were transported by EMS to Johnston Medical Center in Smithfield for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Hernandez-Solis was treated at the scene but declined transport to the hospital.

Police allege Walker was under the influence of an impairing substance other than alcohol. A blood sample was obtained. She was charged with driving while impaired, misdemeanor child abuse, and driving on a revoked license.

Both vehicles were totaled in the collision.

  1. Revoked License??? She was driving with a child in the car. Lock her up with no bond then she won’t be able to drive. Some people never learn. She’s one of them. I hope the child is okay.
