Driver Killed In Highway 39 Crash


SELMA – The NC Highway Patrol has identified the driver of a pickup truck who died in a single vehicle accident on Highway 39 approximately eight miles north of Selma at Feed Mill Road.  The accident was reported at 11:22AM Friday.

Troopers said 55 year-old Michael Lane Cash of Louisburg was headed southbound on Highway 39 in his 2019 Ford truck when he ran off the roadway to the left side and collided with a tree.  According to an accident report, Cash was traveling at approximately 55mph when he lost control, and was traveling at 50mph when he collided head on with a tree.

Cash was pronounced deceased at the scene.  Officials are looking into whether a medical issue may have contributed.

Cash was wearing a seat belt and the airbags on the truck did deploy.  Weather was not a factor.
