A Johnston County deputy and Good Samaritan rendered aid to a driver trapped inside a white Chevy Silverado pickup truck Thursday night until fire and EMS crews arrived.
Around 10:00pm, the truck ran off Glen Laurel Road east of Clayton, struck a ditch, a drainage culvert and then overturned in the roadway trapping the driver inside the cab.
A deputy heard the wreck and was on the scene within seconds. The officer and a civilian attempted to open the doors to the “smoking” truck but could not remove the driver. The Clayton Fire Department arrived and used Hearst Tools to remove a door and pull the man to safety. He was then transported to the hospital. The truck did not catch fire.
