Driver Seriously Injured After Crashing New Car

SMITHFIELD – A Johnston County woman was asleep in her home when it was narrowly missed by a crashing high speed car, early Friday morning.

According to authorities, a Dodge Charger “Scat Pack” model car, with less than 800 miles on the odometer, was traveling at a high rate of speed in the 2200 block of Buffalo Road near Smithfield, when the driver lost control.

The car left the roadway to the right, overcorrected, then struck an embankment. The car was sent airborne into a power pole before landing close to the woman’s front porch, right next to her bedroom window.

The unidentified driver, who was reportedly not wearing a seat belt, suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Wake Med.

In addition to speed, authorities believe alcohol may have played a contributing factor.

The car, which had been purchased less than a month ago, was totaled in the accident.

  1. Everyone needs to learn how to drive better. She most likely lost control when she held the brakes to the floor and could no longer steer the car. With winter weather coming soon. On ice and wet roads: 1. Never hold your brake pedal because it will lock up your wheels and you can not steer anymore. 2. Steer into the direction your car is ⛐ sliding, this is called “drifting” and you will be able to recover a lost of control. 3. Practice and improve your skills on sand or even better on a ice/snow parking lot; you will see for yourself that holding the brakes will make your car un-steerable. 4. Let off the brakes when you want to steer your car! These few techniques would have prevented this accident and saved a brand new car.

  2. @cohen. Who is “she”? The article refers to a “she” minding her business in her own home but it does not reference a “she” driving the “scat-mobile”….. hmmm?

  3. Be awhile before she drives again or gets insurance. The type of car she had purchased shows her interest in speed. It was her speed that caused the accident not brakes.
