Highway 70 in Selma was closed for several hours Saturday afternoon after a car collided with a gasoline tanker. The crash happened at the intersection of Highway 70 East and the northbound exit ramp off I-95 near JR Road.
Selma Police said Tamika Sanders, 32, of Goldsboro was traveling eastbound when she failed to stop for a red light. Her car collided with a fuel tanker turning off the northbound ramp onto westbound Highway 70. Sanders was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Eagle Transport tanker, Mark Ford, age 39, was uninjured.
Police Chief W.M. Thomas said charges against Sanders are pending. Police suspect Sanders was under the influence of alcohol.
The tanker was empty at the time of the crash, however, all east and westbound lanes of Highway 70 were closed, and the northbound I-95 ramp was shutdown, until the accident could be cleaned up.
