A motorist traveling on a dark rural Johnston County roadway collided with a tree that had fallen across the highway early Wednesday.
Around 5:00am, Johnston County EMS and the Brogden Fire Department responded to the accident on Steven’s Chapel Road east of Smithfield.
The large pine tree had apparently fallen during the night and was struck by the driver of a Nissan. The driver was briefly trapped inside the car until being freed by Brogden firefighters.
Ironically the accident happened in the same location where another tree had fallen Sunday morning. The NC Department of Transportation has just finished cleaning up the debris Tuesday from the first incident.
The driver, who lives nearby, was transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Â Photos by John Payne
