Dump Truck Driver Killed In Fiery Crash

A dump truck driver died in a fiery crash this morning (Wednesday) in eastern Johnston County. The single vehicle accident was reported at 5:30am on Rains Mill Road at Princeton-Kenly Road outside of Princeton.

The NC Highway Patrol said a dump truck was traveling south on Princeton Kenly Road and failed to stop at a stop sign at the T-intersection.

The truck drove straight through the intersection, struck several trees, and overturned on its side. After the impact the cab of the truck burst into flames.  The driver died at the scene of the collision.

Troopers have identified the driver as 67 year-old Jimmy Jasper Myers of Princeton. The wreck occurred just a few miles from his home. Troopers don’t know why Myers failed to stop but it was dark and foggy at the time of the accident.  No one else was in the vehicle.

Johnston County EMS and the Princeton Fire Department also responded to the scene.
