DUNN – Police Chief Clark White announced his retirement from the Dunn Police Department effective Sept. 15, 2022. City leaders plan to announce his successor in the coming week.
The 31-year law enforcement veteran began his career with Dunn PD in 2012 after retiring from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. He began as a patrol officer with Dunn and worked his way through the ranks before being named interim police chief in 2020.
“It has been a pleasure to serve the residents of the City of Dunn, the City Manager and Council,” White said in a release announcing his retirement. “The men and women of this agency are a dedicated group of professionals that provide this city with excellent police services and fully engage the community.”
City Manager Steven Neuschafer congratulated Chief White saying, “I have been very fortunate to have Clark leading the Police Department for the past two (long) years. In that time there have been — once in a lifetime — events and Clark has stayed the course to help the department and the city emerge in a stronger position.”
White’s tenure with the N.C. State Highway Patrol spanned 21 years including postings in Bladen, Wayne and Johnston counties as well as two stints with the governor’s security detail.
The chief’s family includes his wife, Margaret, who also is retired from SHP, two daughters, two sons and three grandsons.
Even though he is leaving full-time service with the city, White says he will continue to supplement Dunn’s police force with part-time service on the Dunn Police Department Auxiliary.
The Whites have moved to North Carolina’s coastal region and look forward to spending some well deserved rest, relaxation and quality time with their children and grandchildren.
“We have no definite plans,” White said. “We’re just going to enjoy living.”
Chief White will be greatly missed by the citizens of Dunn. He is the best! Good Luck and Best Wishes for him and his family!
