Dunn Police: Gang Member Charged With Drug Trafficking

DUNN, N.C. – A Dunn man already on federal supervision and house arrest for a prior drug sentence is facing new trafficking charges following a multi-agency narcotics investigation, according to the Dunn Police Department.

Police said the investigation began after community members complained about suspected illegal drug activity at a residence at 412 S. Magnolia Avenue.

On Sept. 3, Dunn Police, assisted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, N.C. State Bureau of Investigation and Harnett County Sheriff’s Office, served a search warrant at the residence.

The investigation focused on Devontrae Davis, whom police identified as a validated member of the Bloods gang.

Investigators allege Davis was distributing controlled substances from the home, including suspected heroin/fentanyl and cocaine.

At the time of the search, police said Davis was under federal supervision and on house arrest following a federal drug sentence in the Eastern District of North Carolina.

During the search, investigators reported seizing approximately 28 grams of cocaine, 20 grams of suspected heroin/fentanyl, a large quantity of Suboxone strips, digital scales, packaging materials and other drug paraphernalia.

Davis was taken into custody and charged with two counts of trafficking in heroin, two counts of trafficking in cocaine, possession with intent to sell or deliver heroin, possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, possession with intent to sell or deliver a Schedule III controlled substance, maintaining a dwelling or place for controlled substance use or sales, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was transported to the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office and held under a $500,000 secured bond pending his first court appearance.

Dunn Police Captsin Johnathan Butler said the department views illegal drugs, gangs and violent crime as closely connected.

“We will continue working with our local, state, and federal partners to identify those responsible for trafficking drugs and to disrupt the organizations that bring these drugs into our community,” Captain Butler said.

“Dunn Police Department encourages residents to continue reporting suspected drug activity and other criminal behavior. Information provided by community members is often critical in helping law enforcement identify and investigate individuals involved in illegal narcotics activity,” said Sgt. Adam Sikorski.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police said additional charges or enforcement actions are possible.
