Update: I-95 Near Dunn Reopens Following Fiery Early Morning Crash

UPDATE: Northbound lanes of Interstate 95 near Dunn have reopened.

DUNN, N.C. (AP) — An early morning crash involving a tractor-trailer and a vehicle fire shut down a stretch of Interstate 95 northbound Sunday, with the closure expected to last until about 2 p.m., authorities said.

Emergency crews responded around 2:15 a.m. to the crash and fire on I-95 near Dunn. Dunn Emergency Services was assisted by Benson Fire Department, Plain View Fire Department, Meadow Fire Department and Harnett County Emergency Management. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Dunn Police Department and the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office also responded.

Officials said the northbound lanes were closed due to the crash and resulting fire.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation urged northbound drivers to take Exit 71, turn left onto Long Branch Road, then turn right onto U.S. 301 North. Drivers should continue onto Carolina Drive/Jonesboro Road before re-entering I-95 at Exit 75.

No information on injuries or the cause of the crash was immediately available.

Authorities urged drivers to avoid the area and expect delays as crews continue cleanup and investigation efforts.
