SMITHFIELD – An elderly man riding a bicycle on Venture Drive in Smithfield was struck and killed by a passenger car around 9:40am Monday.
The driver of the car was also injured in the accident and transported to an area hospital.
The Smithfield Police Department, assisted by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, interviewed witnesses to the tragic accident.
Venture Drive was shut down for more than an hour.
The name of the victim has not been released.
The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation.
