An elderly victim died in a house fire in Wayne County. The fire was reported at 9:50pm Wednesday at 135 Corbett Hill Road near Mount Olive.
Firefighters began attacking the fire as well as searching for 81 year-old Claro Grantham who lived at the address. Grantham was found in the home deceased.
The cause of the fire has been ruled accident and no foul play or criminal activity is suspected.
The fatal house fire still remains under investigation by the NC SBI, Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, Wayne County Emergency Services Fire Marshal and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The Grantham, Smith’s Chapel and Jordan’s Chapel Volunteer Fire Departments responded and were assisted by Wayne County EMS.
